Dee Mahan | President | San Antonio, Texas

PL/B programmer, instructor and support superstar since 1973

Dee's I.T. career began in 1973 with Datapoint Corporation. She developed and led DSCRIBE training courses for Datapoint customers, in-house staff, and Systems Engineers. After leaving Datapoint in 1976, she went on to perform applications programming over the next fifteen years for various companies using DATABUS on Datapoint DOS and RMS systems and PCBUS on Intel systems. Dee later returned to Datapoint as the Systems Engineer supporting DATABUS and training programmers worldwide. During her tenure at Datapoint she also began developing in Visual PL/B for Windows. In 1995, she went to work at Sunbelt Computer Systems as their Systems Engineer for the PL/B language, developing and teaching the first Visual PL/B training classes, and presenting at users' conferences. Since establishing Visual deeDesigns in 1998, Dee has developed software for a wide variety of industries using Sunbelt Visual PL/B, PL/B.NET, DataManager, and Application Server. Some of her more notable projects include: grocery store inventory management, forex and commodities trading management, insurance underwriting, document storage and retrieval, manufacturing systems, order entry/point of sale, grant and fund management, accounting systems (AR/AP/GL/Payroll), retail and back office systems, warehouse management and relationship management applications. Dee comes from a family of musicians, and is an accomplished bassist and vocalist. She also claims to be an avid Star Trek fan – however, doubts persist due to the lack of photographic evidence that she has ever attended a convention in full costume.

Carter Spear | Programmer | San Antonio, Texas

Carter’s interest in programming developed early, taking his first computer programming class as a freshman in highschool. His enthusiasm for programming was fueled by his love for video games. Many of his early projects were motivated by his desire to gain a tactical and technological advantage over the competition, without realizing that he was learning valuable skills he would use during his career. Carter graduated from the University of Texas San Antonio with a bachelor’s degree in cyber security and information systems. He acquired skills in various programming languages such as Python and Java. In recent years, he has been programming using PL/B. Carter continues to be an avid gamer and a lifelong San Antonio Spurs fan.
